The Growing Microdosing Movement
Moms are microdosing mushrooms all over America, more and more mothers are turning to small amounts of magic mushrooms to help them cope with the stress of parenting duties. In what appears to be a growing movement, thousands of mothers have turned to the benefits of tiny amounts of psychedelic mushrooms to relieve anxiety and stress. Reporter for NPR Colorado Public Radio’s Allison Sherry reported in a recent podcast. Credit story to NPR news.
Microdosing Mushrooms and Stress
Located in a north Denver suburb, just a few days before school starts, a mother is home and cooking in the kitchen with her four children. “I went through a very stressful divorce during the pandemic, and it was just too much for me to handle” stated Ariel. “A friend and I joined a support group to discuss what we could do to help navigate these highly emotional times and ease the mental stress which was very debilitating”. The woman interviewed used other names to protect their anonymity due to the legality of magic mushrooms in many states. A therapist who conducted the emotional support group suggested trying a small dose of psilocybin which is the psychedelic mushroom still largely illegal across the United States.
“I don’t think that I would be nearly as present as I am right now had it not been for psychedelics and for the healing that I’ve gotten from them” Ariel stated in her interview with NPR.
The Supportive Mushroom Community
The idea of taking small doses over time has become a national movement, says many medical practitioners due to the many benefits psilocybin researchers and advocates claim. There are support groups and social media followings. Moms are microdosing mushrooms and doing yoga, watching Disney movies with their kids, and going to parks. The mothers interviewed said they sought out mushrooms because they’re more natural than prescription antidepressant medications, with no side effects and they leave no hangover like alcohol.
“We’ve moved past wanting to guzzle five bottles of wine for stress reduction. We’re craving something deeper, and we’re definitely craving more connection with the community” says Tracey.
Tracey added “I live in Denver, Colorado, and I have one daughter 11 years old and I am a steward of moms on mushrooms. I was a comedian and things went bad during COVID, and all I could do was stay home and watch the kids.”. Tracey calls magic mushrooms her medicine and she says it changed her life. She now runs a support group of mothers specifically embarking on that experience. She says microdosing mushrooms helps moms sit with their stress and problems, not run away from them. A lot of research is ongoing across the world on the benefits of psilocybin among people with treatment-resistant depression and PTSD.
The State of Microdosing Mushrooms Today
Numerous studies have found that it helps these problems. The FDA has granted breakthrough therapy status while more research is ongoing less is known about taking tinier doses of psychedelics over periods of time. The term microdosing was originally coined by the pharmaceutical industry in terms of testing small amounts of drugs on patients before larger trials begin to be sure it is safe at lower dosages. However, the idea is simple people who are microdosing mushrooms are basically experimenting on themselves to find the right dose for their metabolism without taking too much (to trip) but instead to make them feel – in a word – centered.
Microdosing mushrooms is not the same as taking a larger dose and then having a trip. Most of the moms take a capsule in such small increments that they say it barely registers any mental elevation such as THC in Cannabis. The vast majority of people taking small doses over a few days, swear by how different they feel Many have even gone of their antidepressants and anti-anxiety medications making this extremely viable for millions of people.
